Introduction
DigTek is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our iOS app Ancestrix - slektskap som gir mening.
Ancestrix is built on the principle of "privacy by design." We believe your family history, genealogy data, and personal information should remain completely under your control, stored securely on your device.
What We Don't Collect
- Personal information such as names, email addresses, or contact details
- Family tree data - all your genealogy information stays on your device
- Person profiles, relationships, dates, or any family history content
- Usage analytics or tracking of how you use the app
- Family insights, statistics, or relationship discovery data
- Export/import activity or sharing behavior
- Search queries or family selector usage
- Device information or technical specifications
- Location data or access to your location
- "Dette er meg" (This is me) preferences or focus person selections
Your Genealogy Data Privacy
Everything you store in Ancestrix - from person profiles to family relationships, dates, and insights - is stored exclusively on your iPhone using Apple's secure Core Data framework. This information:
- Never leaves your device unless you explicitly export and share it
- Is not backed up to our servers (we don't have any)
- Is not accessible to us or anyone else
- Is protected by your device's security features
- Cannot be read by the app developer
- Remains private even when generating family insights and relationship analysis
How Your Data Stays Private
- Local storage only: All data is stored locally using Apple's Core Data framework
- No internet required: Ancestrix works completely offline
- No third-party services: We don't use analytics, advertising, or tracking services
- No account creation: No sign-ups, logins, or user accounts
- No cloud sync: Your family tree never leaves your device
- Zero dependencies: No external libraries or frameworks that could compromise privacy
Family Insights and Relationship Discovery
Ancestrix's family insights dashboard and relationship discovery features work entirely on your device:
- Relationship analysis ("Hvordan er X og Y beslektet?") is computed locally
- Family statistics and insights are generated from your local data only
- Generation analysis and timeline views use your device data exclusively
- Random family facts are created without any external processing
- All relationship discovery happens on-device with no data transmission
- Tree navigation and visualization remains completely private
Export and Import Privacy
When you use Ancestrix's export and import functionality:
- Export happens using Apple's standard share sheet
- You control where exported family data is sent
- We do not receive copies of exported data
- Sharing happens directly from your device to your chosen destination
- Import only processes data you explicitly provide
- No export/import activity is tracked or logged
Family Selector and Search Privacy
Your search and navigation within Ancestrix:
- All search queries remain on your device
- Family selector usage is not tracked
- Navigation patterns through family trees are not logged
- Person focus selections ("Dette er meg") are stored locally only
- No behavioral data about app usage is collected
Norwegian Language and Cultural Features
Ancestrix's Norwegian language support and cultural features:
- Norwegian terminology preferences are stored locally using Apple's @AppStorage
- Cultural conventions and naming patterns are processed on-device
- No language usage data is transmitted
- Regional customizations remain private
Permissions and Device Access
Ancestrix requests minimal permissions only when absolutely necessary:
- No camera, microphone, or photo library access required
- No location, contacts, calendar, or other sensitive data access
- All app functionality works without external permissions
- Complete offline operation with no network requirements
iCloud and Device Backups
If you have iCloud backup enabled, your Ancestrix data may be included in your personal iCloud backup. This is managed entirely by Apple according to their privacy policy, not ours. We have no access to this backed-up data.
Your family tree data in iCloud backups remains private and is only accessible to you through your Apple ID.
Third-Party Services
Ancestrix uses only Apple's built-in frameworks such as SwiftUI for the interface, Core Data for local data storage, and Foundation for data processing. These are Apple's own services and follow Apple's privacy practices.
We do not use any external analytics, advertising, or tracking services whatsoever.
Your Rights
Since we don't collect your data, there's nothing for us to provide access to, correct, delete, or transfer to other services. Your privacy is already completely protected by design.
You maintain complete control over your genealogy data through:
- Local data ownership and control
- Export capabilities when you choose to share
- Ability to delete the app and all data at any time
- No lock-in to external services
- Complete independence from our servers or accounts
Our Philosophy
Ancestrix embodies the principle of "thoughtful technology for family history." Just as we encourage understanding family relationships without overwhelming complexity, we practice responsible data handling without collection.
Your family history is yours to explore, not ours to analyze.
In a world where genealogy companies often monetize family data, Ancestrix stands as an alternative - technology that enhances your understanding of family relationships without exploiting your privacy.
Terms of Service
Our Terms of Service govern your use of all DigTek mobile applications. By downloading or using any DigTek app, you agree to these terms. For complete details, see our Terms of Service.
Changes to This Policy
If we ever change how we handle data (which would contradict our core philosophy), we will update this policy and notify users through the App Store. However, our commitment to zero data collection is fundamental to Ancestrix's design and mission.
Any changes will maintain our commitment to privacy-first design and local-only data storage.
